DealBites Privacy Policy

DealBites ("we," "our," or "us") operates the DealBites mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information you provide

• Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and password. Passwords are securely hashed and stored by our authentication provider (Supabase).
• User-Submitted Content: If you submit a deal through the app, we collect the restaurant name, deal details, description, and location you provide.
• Favorites: We store your saved deals and happy hour preferences to provide a personalized experience.

1.2 Information collected automatically

• Location Data: With your permission, we collect your device's approximate location (GPS coordinates) to show you nearby restaurant deals and locations. We use this data solely to provide location-based features. You can deny location access at any time through your device settings, though some features may be limited.
• Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for analytics and app functionality purposes.
• Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the App, including pages viewed, features used, and session duration. This data helps us improve the App experience.

1.3 Information from third parties

• Google Places API: We use Google's Places API to display restaurant locations near you. Google may collect certain data as described in Google's Privacy Policy.

2. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the App and its features
• Show you restaurant deals, happy hours, and locations near you
• Save your deal favorites and preferences
• Process and display community-submitted deals
• Send push notifications about deals and happy hours (if you opt in)
• Display relevant advertisements to free-tier users
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the App experience
• Respond to your requests, comments, or questions
• Protect against fraudulent or unauthorized activity

3. Advertising

DealBites displays advertisements to users on the free tier through Google AdMob. AdMob may use cookies, device identifiers, and other technologies to serve relevant ads. Advertising data collection by AdMob is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Premium subscribers ($1.99/month) do not see any advertisements.

You may opt out of personalized advertising by adjusting your device settings:

• iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking > disable "Allow Apps to Request to Track"
• Android: Settings > Privacy > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalization

4. Data sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

• Service Providers: We use third-party services to operate the App, including Supabase (authentication and database), Google Cloud (maps and location services), and Google AdMob (advertising). These providers access your data only to perform services on our behalf.
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
• Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
• Aggregated Data: We may share aggregated, non-personally identifiable data for analytics, research, or business purposes.

5. Data storage and security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which uses industry-standard encryption and security practices. Account passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. We use Row Level Security (RLS) policies to ensure users can only access their own data.

While we implement commercially reasonable security measures, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

6. Data retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law. Aggregated, anonymized data may be retained indefinitely for analytics purposes.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data.
• Location: Disable location services at any time through your device settings.
• Notifications: Opt out of push notifications through your device settings.
• Ad Tracking: Opt out of personalized ads through your device's privacy settings.

8. Children's privacy

DealBites is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe we may have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

9. Third-party links

The App contains links to third-party websites and applications, including restaurant chain websites, delivery apps (DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub), and Restaurant.com. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

10. Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the App and updating the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

11. California residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to request disclosure of the categories of personal information we collect, the purposes for which it is used, and the categories of third parties with whom it is shared. You also have the right to request deletion of your personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
